Need a hand? Email support@mentalmetal.app and we'll get back to you. The answers below cover the most common questions.
How do I compress a video?
On the Compress screen, pick one or more videos from your library. On Setup, drag the quality slider and watch the estimated new size update live, then tap to squish. The smaller file is saved back to your library, with its date and location kept.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There's no sign-up and no login. You can start compressing the moment you open the app.
Can I compress more than one video at a time?
Yes. Select as many as you like and Squish queues them with overall and per-file progress. Batch is free, with no limit on how many you compress.
Will Squish add a watermark or limit me?
No. No watermark, no size cap, no daily limit, and no ads. That's the free tier, and it stays that way.
Can I send a video straight to Squish from another app?
Yes. Use the share sheet and choose Compress with Squish (or "Open in / Copy to Squish" from Files). Squish opens on Setup with the size estimate ready.
What is the live size estimate?
As you drag the quality slider, Squish shows the predicted output size and how much smaller it'll be (for example "≈ 24 MB · −68%") before you compress. The app then encodes at exactly that setting, so what you see is what you get.
Can I hit a specific size, like for WhatsApp or email?
Yes. Switch Setup to Target size and pick a cap (WhatsApp, Email, Discord, or a custom number). Squish solves the right quality for each file so it lands under the limit.
Can I lower the resolution too?
Yes. Choose Original, 1080p, 720p, or 480p on Setup to downscale, which shrinks the file further. Only options smaller than your video are offered.
Where are my videos processed? Is it private?
Everything happens on your device. Your videos are compressed on your phone, are never uploaded, and we cannot see them. For full detail, see our Privacy Policy.
Does Squish keep my video's date and location?
Yes. The compressed file keeps the original's date and location metadata, so it sorts and maps in your library just like the source.
How do I delete a compressed video or my history?
Compressed videos are saved to your library like any other video, so you can delete them there. Your in-app History (and the running "space reclaimed" total) can be cleared in the app, and removing the app deletes its local data.
What's free and what's Pro?
Compressing videos, the live size estimate, quality presets, target-size mode, resolution presets, and batch are all free, with no watermark, cap, or ads. Squish Pro adds finishing touches: maximum quality, format conversion (MP4, MOV, and GIF), custom resolution and bitrate, and priority encoding on large batches.
How much is Squish Pro?
A one-time $14.99 lifetime unlock, or $9.99/year with a free trial. There's no monthly or weekly plan. Pick whichever suits you; both unlock the same Pro features.
How do I restore a purchase?
In Settings, tap Restore purchases. Your unlock is tied to your Apple or Google account, so this brings it back on a new device or after reinstalling.
How do I cancel my subscription?
If you chose the annual plan, subscriptions are managed by the App Store or Google Play, not inside the app:
The one-time lifetime unlock isn't a subscription, so there's nothing to cancel.
I paid but Pro isn't active.
First try Restore purchases in Settings. If it still doesn't unlock, email support@mentalmetal.app with the date of purchase and we'll sort it out.
Email support@mentalmetal.app and we'll reply as soon as we can.
